Gratitude: A Few Thoughts From Our President, Jeff Russell

So, what are you thankful for? It’s a question that I will be asking myself and others this week. This year, things are different.

Many of us will gather with family this week, while some of us won’t due to Coronavirus circumstances. A lot of us are finding these times challenging, given all that is going on in our world. Even with all of this, there are still so many reasons to find gratitude and be thankful (even if you have to dig deep) regardless of your situation.

Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Whatever you focus on grows larger. It is true of fears, dreams, aspirations, and more. So, why not focus on gratitude, and have that be the feeling that fills you up and grows inside of you?
  • Being thankful can contribute to better health overall, including serving as an antidepressant.
  • Feeling and expressing gratitude can improve relationships – ones with others and with yourself!
  • When we’re thankful, we’re more positive overall.
  • Gratitude prompts generosity, which can make a significant positive impact on someone who may really need it.
  • You’re a more awesome person to be around when you exude gratitude.

Gratitude and thankfulness seem to be the ultimate cure, so why not take some time this week to give it a try? If you need a little more structure for this exercise, I would definitely recommend a book called The Five-Minute Journal. I use this and know quite a few people who couldn’t live without it. This stuff works!

Life is good. – Jeff
